How Zhengzhou Becomes the "Vertical Dian" with 100 Mini Series Starting Production Daily

Recognized as a historic capital, a major transportation hub, a densely populated metropolis with extensive production facilities, and much more, Zhengzhou in Henan Province is emerging as a powerhouse for mini series production—second only to Hengdian World Studios and known within the industry as the "Vertical Dian."

In mid-July, the Ju Mei Airport Vertical-Screen Filming Base in Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone bustled with activity. Hosting an average of 8 to 9 film crews daily, its booking schedule remained fully booked well into the following 10 days. Established nearly a year ago on the site of a former industrial park, the base has produced nearly 500 mini series and has become one of the largest and best-equipped production hubs in Henan Province.

Meanwhile, Zhengzhou continues to repurpose idle resources by establishing mini series production bases in areas such as the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone and Guancheng Hui District. The city has also developed over a hundred outdoor and non-studio locations—including the CBD—providing crews with an easily accessible catalog of filming locations to facilitate rapid planning.

Zhengzhou is now home to over 800 mini series production companies and a workforce of 30,000 people. Approximately 100 mini series are filmed daily, each with a production cycle of 7 to 15 days. A strong industry cluster has emerged—lighting crews can be mobilized within 10 minutes, and hundreds of costume sets can be sourced in under an hour.
